Mowing Season: 

Please be careful when mowing around water meters.  Our new meters have electronic devices inside.  If your meter is damaged the cost is approximately $300. There will be a fee charged if any meter is destroyed or damaged.  Prices for the repair or replacement vary by damage.  Please be careful when mowing around your meter.

NEW:  Customers can now set up a credit card on-line to automatically pay each month.  Call the office to enroll. There will be a convenience fee added for using a credit card.

Water Rate Increase October 1, 2022:   Single Unit $22.25 for the first 1,000 gallons and $9.00 for each 1,000 gallons after the first 1,000 is used Multi Unit $26.85 for the first 1,000 gallons and $9.00 for each 1,000 gallons after the first 1,000 is used.

Billing Information:

February 14, 2024-March 14, 2024 water bills will mailed March 18, 2024 and are due April 10, 2024.  Last day to pay for any previous balance is Monday, March 25, 2024.  

Application and Starting Service Deposit Information:

All new customers will need to complete an application to start service.  The District will need a deposit (see below for rates), a signed application, a copy of your driver's license and or state id to start water service. 

Water services can be provided (Monday-Friday) if deposit and application are received by 3:00p.m.

Click here complete the application.  This is a fillable form, please complete, save as a pdf  and email to info@southhwywater.com.  Once emailed, the office will email your account number and information on how to pay the deposit on-line.  The deposit website sent is only for deposit accounts.  Please do not pay your bill using the one-time website.  A deposit must be made to start water service.  Each meter requires a deposit.  Renters $100, Mobile Homes, $100 and Home Owners $40.  Small commercial $150, Large Commercial $1200.  Please fill in the deposit amount according to the information above.

Mobile Homes: $100

Small Commercial Users: $150

The delinquent fee $75.

Returned Checks:  There is a $25 fee for all returned checks

Payment Information:

Payments can be made at the office door slot anytime Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30p.m. Please do not place cash in door slot.

Customers also may pay:

1) South Highway Water ACH no charge, download form, complete and drop off form and voided check.  Payment made through your bank on due date.

2) on-line with a credit card to shwd.viewmybill.net

3) by calling toll-free (855-483-5729). Identification code is 6295811. There is a processing fee to use a credit card.

4) First Mid-Illinois-Monday-Thursday 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m., Friday 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m., Saturday 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. Drive-Up Hours-Monday-Friday 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., Saturday 8:00a.m. -12:00p.m.

We encourage all customers to sign-up for our on-line billing services. Each month you will receive an email to view and/or pay your bill. If you choose, you may pay on-line. This will be one sure way we can ensure you get your bill in a timely manner. 

The District offers ACH (Automated Clearing House) with no extra charge, contact the office located at 111 Cedar Creek Road, Makanda, IL 62958 and complete the form.  Each month the draft is set-up automatically to deduct your water bill directly from your checking/savings account. Any returned ACH from the bank will be no longer available to use.  Another payment form will be needed for future payments. See click link above for form.

 

BOARD MEETING SCHEDULE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2024

Every 3rd Thursday at 6:00p.m. at South Highway Water District Board Room

2024 Board Meeting Schedule:   March 21, 2024, April 18, 2024, May 16, 2024, June 20, 2024, July 18, 2024, August 15, 2024, September 19, 2024, October 17, 2024, November 21, 2024, December 12, 2024. Date orginally scheduled for December, 19th, the Board approved to change the date on 1.18.24 due to the holiday schedule. 

Holiday Closings: New Year's Day:  Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday:  President's Day:  Good Friday:  Memorial Day:  Juneteenth:  July 4th:  Labor Day:  Columbus Day:  Veterans Day:  Thanksgiving Day and the day after:  Christmas Eve 1/2 day & Christmas Day.

INFORMATION ON WATER MAIN BREAKS & BOIL WATER ORDERS

When a water main breaks, the following procedures are taken:

A julie is called in and all utility lines are marked. Utility companies have 2 hours to locate their lines.

SHWD staff are notified the answering machine and website are updated with information.

If a customer has a current phone number with the district, an automated phone call is completed.

Southern Illinoisan Newspaper receives an email regarding the issued boil water order.

Boil water order signs are placed in the area of the boil water order.  

A water sample is taken to the lab once the line is repaired for tests to be conducted to confirm the water is safe for consumption.  Once the lab calls and informs the district the samples have been cleared for consumption, the district can lift the boil water order.  Immediately, the signs are removed, webiste and answering machine is updated.
